Beet Cylindra Heirloom

Add to Cart:

A unique long and cylindrical beet gives 3 to 4 times more uniform slices than round beets. Sweet, dark red roots are 8" long, 1-3/4" across. Excellent for pickling or steaming. Dates from the 1880s. Keep the top of the beet covered while growing. Baby beets make excellent eating, and harvesting them helps the remaining beets grow better. Good choice for those with limited space.

Days To Maturity: 60

Approximately 75 seeds per packet.

Botanical Name: Beta vulgaris

Begin sowing seeds when soil has warmed somewhat after thawing in the spring. Sow about 10 seeds per foot, 1/2" deep in a row or scattered in a band. For large beets, thin to a spacing of 4-6" apart. For a continuous supply of baby beets or greens, sow every 14 days until late July. Remember that the thinnings are great tasting and an excellent vitamin and iron source!
