4 Fun & Easy Slushie Recipes

slushie

When it’s hot outside, there’s no better way to cool down than with an ice cold slushie. If you ever went to the beach or an amusement park as a kid and got a snow cone at the refreshment stand on a sweltering summer’s day, these will bring back some happy memories.

Unlike back in the old days, most commercial slushies now are made with syrups full of GMO high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavorings, and chemical food coloring. If that’s been holding you back from enjoying one of your favorite treats, then wait no more!

If you have an ice shaver or a snow cone maker, you can make your own slushie at home with all natural, real food ingredients. Just FYI, our snow cone maker is very easy to use. All you have to do is drop the ice in the top and hold the lid down. It makes snow-like ice that absorbs the syrups.

Making slushies is quick and easy! And, the best part is, you can flavor them any way you want! Here are just a few ideas.

Traditional Slushie

For a traditional slushie, mound some shaved ice into serving cups or glasses. Add enough of your favorite flavoring to be totally absorbed into the shaved ice.  Try concentrated lemonade. For a super fresh treat, squeeze the lemons yourself and some sugar (or your favorite sweetener), then pour it over the ice. Or, thaw a can of frozen lemonade and pour some of that on top. (You might want to dilute it a little to taste.)  You can even garnish your slushie with fruit, if you want. Yum!

You can use any kind of frozen juice: orange, tangerine, grapefruit, lime, grape, apple, pineapple, mango… Mix them together and make your favorite combo!

Or, if you have a juicer, make your own fresh juice.

If you want a more authentic snow cone syrup without all the GMO ingredients and chemicals, you can make your own using our Natural Snow Cone Syrup recipe.

Rainbow Slushie

Want a triple-flavor rainbow slushie? No one’s too old to enjoy this fun and colorful treat! Place a layer of shaved ice in the bottom of a tall cup or parfait-style glass. Pour your favorite flavoring over it. Then add another layer of ice, and different flavoring. Finally, add a top layer of ice and a third flavoring.

Ice Cream Slushie

How about an ice cream slushie? Put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the bottom of a glass. Mound shaved ice on top. Pour your favorite flavoring over the ice and let it soak in. Ta da! You just made yourself a creamy and refreshing treat!

Soft Drink Slushie

If your favorite flavor only comes in soda form, try a soft drink slushie. Mound ice into the cup as usual, then pour on your favorite soda, such as cola or root beer. A twist of lemon or lime on top will add a refreshing burst of flavor.
